Bad Catholics, Good Guides

As substitute Lecturer at the April meeting, I thought I would follow up on Brother Dave’s great beer presentation with some information on the great Catholic connection between theĀ  faith and various forms of alcohol.

The Bad Catholic’s Guide to Wine, Whiskey, and Song is a great read which goes through the alphabet from Apocalypse to Zinfandel with wit and wisdom. I especially enjoyed learning about the German Monks who brew a particularly filling beer for Lent and then subsist entirely on this beverage for 40 days. I bet they have great spiritually enlightening conversations on day 35!

I also mentioned The Bad Catholic’s Guide to Good Living that is written by the same author and covers the entire liturgical year with humor and recipes.

In cruising Amazon, I just discovered a third book and immediately added it to my wish list. The Bad Catholic’s Guide to the Seven Deadly Sins will no doubt be as funny and informative as the previous two books. Let’s all learn to live our faith with humor and levity.
